Make an Official Information Request

Request information held by Council in accordance with the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act (LGOIMA).

You can make a request for any official information that is held by Council.
Before requesting, please check if the information you want is available on our main website by following the link below or by phoning us on09 430 4200.
If you want access to personal information held by Council about yourself, please make a privacy request.

1: Email your request

2: Assess your request

We will acknowledge your request and be in touch if we need more information.
We must answer your request within 20 working days, unless there are special circumstances that mean we can't meet this time limit. For example, if you are requesting a large amount of complex information.
Sometimes we may need to charge for supplying the information and we will let you know first if this is the case. For example, if your request requires a large amount of staff time to research internal documents and records.

3: Respond to your request

We will respond to your request and provide you with the information if it is held by Council.
In some cases we may withhold information under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 if it would:
  • endanger the safety of any person
  • prejudice maintenance of the law
  • compromise the privacy of any person
  • reveal confidential or commercially sensitive information
  • cause offence to tikanga Maori or would disclose the location of waahi tapu
  • prejudice public health and safety
  • compromise legal professional privilege
  • allow information to be used for improper gain or advantage.

4: Request a review

If you are not happy with the outcome of your request, you can complain to the Office of the Ombudsman.
